Why should I do yoga?

All I can say is that yoga has improved every aspect of my fitness as well as my well being. Being your typical meathead large man with no flexibility and limited core strength as well as being 44 years old I have a hard time with yoga.

When I first started P90X I really didn’t even give the yoga a chance. I would do anything to skip this workout and usually did. It was hard. It’s 90 minutes. I don’t have the time to do this. It was hard. It won’t really help me get strong. It was hard. Ok now that I’ve come up with all the excuses to not do it and clearly it was hard I listened to someone who it helped immensely.

Once I began to embrace yoga I really started to see the benefits and almost immediately. My flexibility has been improving, my core strength is improving, I find balancing during other exercises easier, I’m engaging smaller stabilizer muscles in addition to the larger muscles and I’ve learned to breathe with all the exercises. This isn’t to say I really enjoy doing Yoga X but I am starting to like it.

There are also several alternatives to Yoga X. The first and one I really like is from the P90X One On One series and is called Patience Hummingbird. At just over 30 minutes the time frame is much more bearable while still being challenging.

Another one I really like is also from the P90X One On One series and is called Fountain of Youth Yoga. This is a little more challenging than the Patience Hummingbird yoga and lasts about 45 minutes. I really enjoy this yoga workout and feel the benefits as I’m going through it. There is a very nice flow to it.

The newest yoga I’ve been doing is the P90X2 Yoga. This is a totally different animal than any of the others. It’s 66 minutes and the flow is just incredible. It is definitely more challenging in many ways and dramatically improved my strength and balance. Such an incredible workout.

If you truly want to improve many different areas of your wellness then you do not want to neglect yoga. It will help mentally as well as physically and also will help prevent injuries while doing other workouts.
