I sent a message to my clients and customers to ask how I could help them achieve their health and fitness goals. There were several different responses that basically led to the same question. How do I get motivated to workout, eat healthy and how do I find the time to do both of those things. I made this short video explaining the things I do.
To sum it up simply, the first part for me was making a decision I needed to make a change in my life. For those that know me and my story they all know that after I quit smoking I blew up pretty large. What most people didn’t know was how bad of shape I was in. My lungs were at 52%, I couldn’t climb my stairs to go to sleep. I had to crawl up the last half of the stairs. I don’t really want to go over my story here so you can read it at About Me
Once I made the decision it was a matter of making a commitment to doing what I had to do. That being said I began a rigorous fitness program because I wanted to get better quickly. It’s not recommended for most people to do it this way due to the intensity and that the body isn’t ready to go from sedentary to extreme and most people will quit because it’s hard. I was highly motivated so I did it.
I took pictures when I began so I had a baseline and something to go back and look at when I felt like giving up. Also, sharing my progress with other people through pictures and posts has helped me to stay motivated. Now I am accountable to other people and if I can help somebody begin their journey and see their own results that really makes everything worthwhile. I’ve had the opportunity to help people get off diabetes medicines, help with liver issues, help alcoholics in their recovery through fitness and many other blessings that give me a reason to continue.
Now onto the time it takes. Preparation is a big key for me. When I go shopping I will prepare a good majority of my foods for the week including cooking a lot of chicken breasts, cutting fruits and freezing them and figuring out if I need to prepare anything else in advance. Having healthy snacks available is also very helpful. It’s very rare I don’t have almonds, P90X protein bars, homemade protein bars, Shakeology and many other snacks. The Shakeology is one of the biggest things that helps me save time and get my nutrition. If I’m using the whey based formulas I can cook 3 shakes at once and have them for the day all prepared just to grab and go. Using the vegan formula I don’t make them in advance. The other thing I think about is that I don’t FIND the time to be healthy, I MAKE the time. This is a priority in my life and other things just have to fall behind that. Now it’s just something I do. I wake up, eat breakfast, answer my emails and package shipments for the day first thing. Next I workout after my breakfast has digested so I’m good and fueled up for my workout. Then I can get on with my day.
While it’s not always easy to eat healthy and to get an hour workout in, the alternative will be much more time consuming. I don’t want to get old and have to spend a lot of time and money going to doctor’s appointments and taking drugs for different things like cholesterol, diabetes, liver failure, heart attacks, etc..Eating healthy and working out will help me avoid the problems later in life that are becoming much more prevalent with today’s “food” if you want to call it that. Not only do I have more energy now and get more accomplished but I feel a million times better. Now I can ask myself how do I NOT stay motivated. It’s a lifestyle change and it all begins in the mind and deciding to make the change and then committing to doing what it takes to see the results.
